Situated in the heart of Tuscany, from Capraleccia you can explore all of Tuscany's sights. Excursions to Tuscan villages or the larger cities of Florence, Pisa, Lucca. Walks in the surrounding natural paradise, or a trip to the sea with its endless sandy beaches and pine forests.
The Capraleccia is only a few hundred metres from the picturesque village of Orciatico. You can stroll into the hamlet for a coffee in the bar, run a few small errands in the shop or simply enjoy the atmosphere of Orciatico, which is a good 300 metres above sea level.
The village of Orciatico still retains its medieval appearance.
The origins of the village date back to a 12th century castle.
A 10 minute drive takes you to the neighbouring village of Lajatico, the birthplace of the famous singer Andrea Bocelli. Here you will find some shops, restaurants and two cafes.
Capraleccia is immersed in a natural paradise. From the front door you can set off on short walks or longer hikes in the woods and the surrounding area. You can spend hours discovering the Mediterranean flora and fauna.
Destinations such as an old windmill or the ruins of the medieval castle "La Rocca di Pietracassa" are in the immediate vicinity. On the banks of the forest stream, St. Madonna is said to have left her footprints on a mossy stone -- the famous "tracce della Madonna".
Volterra, San Gimignano, San Miniato and many other Tuscan towns are worth visiting. Pisa can be reached in less than an hour, Florence and Siena in less than 1.5 hours by car.
The picturesque town of Volterra enchants not only with its medieval alleys, squares and captivating view over the wide hilly landscape. The Etruscan Museum of Guarnacci is one of the most interesting museums in Tuscany and houses hundreds of Etruscan finds. The city is also famous for its alabaster workmanship.
Besides the Piazza dei Miracoli with its famous leaning tower, Pisa is also a popular student city in Italy. Almost half of the inhabitants are students, which gives the city a youthful flair.
The sea is less than 50 km away. Just south of Cecina are wonderful natural beaches on the crystal-clear Tyrrhenian Sea, in the middle of a nature reserve. You can walk for kilometres along the sandy beach, partly through soft sand, partly through fine gravel. Just behind it is a pine forest that attracts not only walkers but also cyclists and horse riders. The famous beaches of Populonia are also within easy reach.
